Simple trinomial

What's a trinomial?

A trinomial is an expression which has 3 terms. There are 2 types:

Simple trinomial

A simple trinomial only has a coefficient of 1. So it always starts with an x^2

When you factor, your answer would always be like this

 (            ) (            )

Introduction

Complex trinomial

Add to 11

Multiply to 24.

1 x 24

2 x 12

3 x 8

4 x 6

You need to find the factors of 24, which also add up to 11.

When you factor you nedd (    ) (    )

The factors of 24 which multiply with 24 and add to 11 are 3 and 8.

Example 1:

Example 2:

Multiply to 12.

1 x 12

2 x 6

3 x 4

Multiply to 12.

-1 x (-12)

-2 x (-6)

-3 x (-4)

I did this instead of the other one because the middle term is a negative. So the factors of 24 have to add to (-7). When you multiply a negative and a negative you get a positive. Also, when you add a negative and negative you get a positive.

The factor of 24 also, has to add up to (-7)

The factors of 12 which multiply with 12 and add to (-7) are (-3) and (-4).
